Gorilla Trekking

Embark on a journey to enjoy up close and personal encounter with the endangered mountain gorillas in the wild while having a night at the New Wilderness Bisate Reserve. Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is best done in Volcanoes National Park, home to about 13 habituated gorilla families.

A gorilla trek involves searching for mountain gorillas on foot with an experienced park ranger guide from Volcanoes National Park. Once you locate a group of these gentle giants, you have a maximum of one hour to photograph them and observe their behaviors.

Gorilla families to visit Volcanoes National Park include Sabyinyo, Amahoro, Susa A, Susa B, Umubano, Hirwa, Agashya (Group 13), Ugenda, Bwenge, and Kwitonda gorilla family group. To engage in a gorilla trek in Rwanda, you should have a valid gorilla permit and each permit is open for booking at USD 1500 per visitor.

Golden Monkey Tracking

A golden monkey trek takes you on a guided walk to explore the distinct golden monkeys. The trek with golden monkeys takes about 2-4 hours around the slopes of the Virunga volcanoes. Other notable birds include Bronzy sunbird, Grey-headed bush shrike, Lesser honey guide, African goshawk, Blue-spotted wood dove, Doherty bush shrike, Brown-necked parrot, Scarlet-tufted malachite sunbird, and Bateleur.
